April Community Forums in Three Counties
The PEI Working Group for a Livable Income
is hosting three community forums about
BASIC INCOME GUARANTEE (BIG)
Basic Income Guarantee (BIG), is a plan that would ensure that all individuals and families have a decent income. Right now, low wages, low pensions, and inadequate social programs are keeping too many people in poverty. BIG aims to boost incomes to a livable level (above the “poverty line”), providing everyone with the basics for a life of dignity, health, and well being. BIG also contributes to healthy communities.
The PEI Working Group for a Livable Income believes that a 5-7 year BIG pilot project would work well in Prince Edward Island and would pave the way for permanent Basic Income Guarantee in PEI.
The three community forums will give people a chance to learn more about BIG, and to offer their ideas for making it happen.
Each forum will start at 6:30 p.m. and run until 8:30 p.m. There is no cost involved, and refreshments will be offered. Here are the dates:
Thursday, April 9, 2015 – Community Connections, 701 Water St., Summerside
Tuesday, April 14, 2015 – Montague Regional High, 274 Valleyfield Road, Montague
Thursday, April 16, 2015 – Murphy’s Community Centre, 200 Richmond St., Charlottetown
