BIG Summer Student Work Opportunity
Position: Community Researcher and Facilitator Duration: 8 weeks, full time Start Date: June 20 Location: Charlottetown Deadline for Applications: June 10
Tasks and Responsibilities: The individual will support the work of and report to the Basic Income Guarantee (BIG) Working Group of the PEI Working Group for a Livable Income.
Activities may include:
Community-based research, for example organizing focus groups addressing questions related to Basic Income Guarantee
Research related on basic income guarantee (BIG) initiatives in Canada and abroad
Preparing a literature review and synthesis report of promising and best practices in BIG in Canada and abroad
Engaging and increasing awareness of the general public and other key stakeholders of the BIG initiative in PEI
Assisting with creating educational materials and communication tools for the general public and other stakeholders
Organizing and coordinating a planning/consensus meeting of key stakeholders on the 5 year PEI BIG initiative/proposal
Establishing a directory/network of key stakeholders
Making updates to the C-BIG website Prepare meeting notes, presentations, arranging and participating in meetings and working groups as required
Eligibility:
To be eligible for this position, you must: be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment have been registered as a full-time student in the 2015-16 academic year and intending to return to full-time studies in the fall of 2016 be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or have official refugee protection status in Canada be legally entitled to work in Canada
Skills/Experience/Education:
This position will be of particular interest (and benefit) to students considering careers in community development and social justice. A person with excellent communication, research and writing abilities in any post-secondary program, combined with a strong personal interest would be considered.
The successful candidate must:
be comfortable working with a group of people in a community setting
have good writing skills
have good organizational skills
understand the basics of research
be a good communicator and be comfortable facilitating group discussions
Other things that would be helpful are:
access to a vehicle
fluency in french
experience working/volunteering in the community sector
Terms: 8 weeks, 37.5 hours per week 15.00 per hour
The working day is generally from 8:00 to 4:00, during weekdays. There may be some (infrequent) evening and weekend work involved.
